Walton "The Bear"

We’re looking forward to tackling Walton’s comic opera, The Bear, in February 2024. Described as an "Extravaganza in One Act" and written to a commission from the Koussevitzsky Foundation, it’s an adaptation of Chekhov’s play, to a libretto by Paul Dehn and Walton, and showcases the composer’s witty parodies, à la Façade. The Bear was first performed at the Jubilee Hall, Aldeburgh on 3 June 1967.
