Further coronavirus update

Tuesday, May 12, 2020

Like everyone else, our lives have been interrupted by the coronavirus COVID-19. We got off to a wonderful start in the New Year, when we were fortunate to enjoy two London weekend courses, working on Rachmaninov’s Second Symphony in January with Steve Bell, and a splendid Finnish programme in mid-February, featuring Sibelius’ Fifth Symphony alongside two gorgeously evocative contemporary pieces by Rautavaara and Saariaho, with Levon Parikian, our Artistic Director. Sadly, we were obliged to cancel the March meeting and more recently the June meeting, in the light of Public Health England and Government advice on large gatherings and social distancing. Lev plans to re-schedule both programmes – music inspired by the sea, by Bridge, Britten & Smyth, and Bartók’s Concerto for Orchestra - into the 2021 season. We’ll be inviting players to suggest repertoire for the remaining 2021 weekends, so watch this space.

A note for your diary: we're currently planning an opera day (not Wagner this time) on Sunday 25 October. Details to be announced soon.
